#TrailTherapy
Since the spring 2018 bRUNch Club has been bringing people together in the National Forest area to embrace the many benefits of being physically active amongst nature with others.
What we do is quite simple: We gather every Thursday morning at for a chatty paced run (or 'rike') of around 5-miles, led by our super friendly but very well qualified leaders. And those that wish to stay back afterwards for a chat over a cuppa, and perhaps a bite to eat.
Your running prowess isn't important and you certainly don't need to be speedy to join us.
In fact the word 'fast' isn't in our volcabularly! Because, we're more interested in admiring the wonderful surroundings of our local countryside, and enjoying the company of like minded people.
And, to be honest, many of our regulars are so busy chatting that they couldn't tell you which route they've just been on 🤣
Over the years a real sense of community and mutual support has developed amongst the group. Many friendships have blossomed as a result, and our participants have found being involved has been fantastic for both their physical health and mental wellbeing.
So, if you're free on a Thursday morning, what are you waiting for? Come and join us for a trot and a chat 😀
Our aim has always been to be as inclusive as possible, so we welcome any adult that doesn't mind clambering over a few stiles and getting their shoes a bit muddy. In terms of fitness, if you're able complete parkrun, or the equivalent distance of 5km, in around 40 minutes or less you'll be find in one of the running groups. For those that are not quite at that level we have a 'riker' group, which is aimed at those new to running, coming back from injury or just wanting to build their confidence on the trails.
As a rule we generally have 3 groups:
Rikers: who will be walking for much of the time but will have bouts of gentle jogging on the easier bits.
Very Relaxed Runners: who will be jogging at a relaxed pace and walking most of the uphills and tricky bits.
Relaxed Runners: who will be mostly running but likely to be walking a bit if it gets steep or tricky underfoot.
Whichever group you join, the leaders will set a pace that is comfortable and enjouable for everyone in their group and always make sure that nobody is getting left behind. And there are generally plenty of stops to admire the view, take photos etc.
New for 2026, we have introduced a simple membership system which gives you the option to join us as 'Regular Member' or a 'Casual Member'.
As a 'Regular Member' your membership is renewable annually on 1st April each year and currently costs £5 per year (although it's free for 2025/26 for existing participants), and entitles you to join Thursday sessions at a discounted rate of £3.50, as well as other benefits such as priority for places on special events that we organise.
'Casual' membership if for those that only wish to attend occasionally. There is no membership fee for this but individual sessions are slightly more expensive at £5.
For anyone interested in joining us for the first time, you are welcome to join us as our guest for a FREE first session, with no commitment beyond that.
Also, if you'd love to join us but would struggle to afford it, we'd hate that to be a barrier as we believe this kind of activity should be open to anyone. Therefore, please get in touch so we can arrange a free or discounted bursary place, which will be done discretely and confidentially.
We operate as a 'not-for-profit' community group managed by volunteers, and are part of the Jog Derbyshire network which is overseen by Peak Running CIC. The modest membership and entry fees are purely to cover our operating costs with any surplus money being used to further the aims of the group in consultation with members.
Membership and bookings for sessions is managed using a system called Spond, which has an app that can be downloaded onto your phone as well as a web-browser based system.

The 'Relaxed' and 'Very Relaxed' running group meet around 09:30, ready to start at 09:45.
